Metallurgical Fire Melancholic, Depressive music like this seems to give me the opposite effect. This is gloriously expressive and brings me joy. People acknowledging in minor keys the realities of life, and the mind, that we go through is better than any shrink. I love the unpretentious but very solid drumming (or drum sounds) on the record. Drums are always my first window into whether I like an album. Favorite track: Suffering Waits with Arms wide open.

Katimavik86 A really compelling release, it's easy to get swept away in the momentum. This is one I'll be returning to often. Highly recommended. Favorite track: Further into Nothingness.

Wxmaggot I'm normally not a fan of depressive black metal, but this ticks all the right boxes with me. Easy to get lost in and never loses momentum. Favorite track: Lurking within Twilight.

Jarak Not quite as amazing as TINBLH, but still damn good. Would probably make a great introduction to depressive black metal, for people who are fans of regular black metal.

about

Back in 2007/2008, New Zealand Black Metal musician "Mort", who already had several projects on the go including Balthazar, SerpentThrone, Winds of Sorrow, and others began writing music for a new project, to be entitled "Exiled From Light". Unlike Mort's other projects to date, Exiled From Light was filled to the brim with depressive riffs and melodies, to encapsulate an absolute sense of apathy, disgust, listlessness, and existential dread. "

Descending Further into Nothingness" was the first album to be completed and released under the Exiled From Light monikor, an album that was genuinely claustrophobic, bleak, and hopeless with sharp icy riffs shrouded in melancholic and ominous keyboard tones.

Six great tracks of pure melancholy across 50 minutes of music. Highly recommended for fans of Austere, Make a Change...Kill Yourself, Hypothermia, Apati, Trist, and all listeners of Depressive Black Metal!
