Nearly four years after releasing the debut self-titled album, Melbourne based Experimental Death-Doom band Subterranean Disposition returns with a massive new full-length album entitled “Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure.” With over two decades of experience in various projects, (including in bands such as Cryptic Darkness, The Eternal, and Insomnium Dei among others), Subterranean Disposition founder Terry Vainoras brings with him a plethora of writing and recording experience, and has used that to his advantage, in crafting an unmistakably bold, creative, and forward-thinking album that incorporates as many elements and techniques outside the doom metal genre as within it.
Asides from a wide variety of guitars, bass, and vocal styles, Terry also plays saxophone on the album, and enlisted the help of Dan Nahum (Bleakwood, The Veil, Dead River Runs Dry) on Drums, Gelareh Pour on Kemancheh, Qeychak Alto and voice, and Daniel Lucas on guest vocals. All-in-all, a wide variety of sound textures, dynamics, and emotion are incorporated into this album, ultimately crafting an album drenched in atmosphere and post-apocalyptic fervor with subtle and careful deliberation in every aspect of its writing and recording.
“Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure” was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Calaitzis at Toyland studio in Melbourne Australia, and the album cover was crafted by acclaimed New York artist Coby O’Brien (whose cover art also appears on past HDR compilations). This album will be jointly released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and BadMoodMan Music on June 13, 2016.
lyrics
Like the hungry ghosts that haunt this rotten soil
Insatiable appetites for the impossible
Raped, defiled and plundered her abundance in spades
The detritus of a failed landscape remains
In the throes of an inherent annihilation
Atrabilious to the very marrow
Steadfast to displace a pagan past
Worshipping the Inorganic
Until the Skyscrapers mark our tombstones here
Mouldering away in shallow self tilled graves
Collective coffin culture hits that final nail
Skeletal lords of the debris never appeased
Bleed the stone in the name of unrivalled avarice
Like contagium it crawls through decaying urban sprawls
This death wish fixative, hum to the tune of our Requiem
Headfirst into a Draconian impasse
Perpetuate this war pandemic
Until the Skyscrapers mark our tombstones here
Witness our ways return to naught
Skies torn asunder as the oceans boil
Castrate her impotent
A century of petty theft has robbed our cradle bare
Until the skyscrapers mark our tombstones here

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it.
That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten

Sorrowful indeed. Utterly beautiful blackened doom metal with melody that draws out a cathartic release. Its works like these that have me believe what Schopenhauer said about music was true, that it speaks truth to what is at our most core. Camelus Dromedarius
Joseph Hawker subverts the musical and sociopolitical status quo with a black metal triptych that's as incendiary as it is impressionistic. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
