Cold and mesmerizing atmospheric black metal from the Siberian region of Yugra in the city of Nizhnevartovsk, Windbruch presents their second full-length album “No stars, only full dark” after releasing their debut “Collisions of the World” in late 2009 on Sun and Moon Records. With their new effort, Windbruch succeeds in creating a delicate and emotional soundtrack for the heart of winter with a genuine sound rooted firmly in the original aura and atmosphere of black metal but with a distinct Siberian twist. “No stars, only full dark” has a strong cinematic component to it turning the album into a journey. Dialogue from the Russian film “Stalker” is included in the track “Only Full Dark”, and “Neswa-Pawuk” is based on the novel “Nomads of the North” from the american writer James Oliver Curwood who wrote about two fugitives escaping to the Canadian tundra. An ode to all things cold, bleak, and distressing, “No stars, only full dark” is the perfect soundtrack for lonely cold winter nights.
“The whole album is something like a message from silent space or another reality. It is а sonic message to humanity to stop the exploitation of our home planet. Hundreds of years of war and over-consumption of the gifts of nature can not last forever. The future is coming. The dark future without stars. This concept finds reflection in the novel “Nomads of the North” by J. O. Curwood in some chapters and the cover itself refers to the same novel”
lyrics

After listening to Ysyry Mollvün, listening to Downfall of Nur was urgent and turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in quite some time: Umbras de Barbagia is simply magisterial; the atmosphere can hardly be compared to anything else. There is a deep, palpable connection to nature imbueing each very fibre of this record. The amalgamation of black metal and folk elements is done with a high intuition for detail and class, resulting in a highly immersive experience. Wonderful. David Fischer

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it.
That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten
Joseph Hawker subverts the musical and sociopolitical status quo with a black metal triptych that's as incendiary as it is impressionistic. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
