Nearly four years after releasing the debut self-titled album, Melbourne based Experimental Death-Doom band Subterranean Disposition returns with a massive new full-length album entitled “Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure.” With over two decades of experience in various projects, (including in bands such as Cryptic Darkness, The Eternal, and Insomnium Dei among others), Subterranean Disposition founder Terry Vainoras brings with him a plethora of writing and recording experience, and has used that to his advantage, in crafting an unmistakably bold, creative, and forward-thinking album that incorporates as many elements and techniques outside the doom metal genre as within it.
Asides from a wide variety of guitars, bass, and vocal styles, Terry also plays saxophone on the album, and enlisted the help of Dan Nahum (Bleakwood, The Veil, Dead River Runs Dry) on Drums, Gelareh Pour on Kemancheh, Qeychak Alto and voice, and Daniel Lucas on guest vocals. All-in-all, a wide variety of sound textures, dynamics, and emotion are incorporated into this album, ultimately crafting an album drenched in atmosphere and post-apocalyptic fervor with subtle and careful deliberation in every aspect of its writing and recording.
“Contagiuum and the Landscapes of Failure” was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Calaitzis at Toyland studio in Melbourne Australia, and the album cover was crafted by acclaimed New York artist Coby O’Brien (whose cover art also appears on past HDR compilations). This album will be jointly released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and BadMoodMan Music on June 13, 2016.
lyrics
Soured by the years of systematic denial
Embittered to the rotted core
Perils of the mirror bane conspires
A soul's deprivation disrobed
The very front that saves enslaves
Content to bathe in wretchedness
Self negligent to breaking points
Perpetuate the preferred state of duress
Delight in spiteful self resentment
Bear this crux of self disgust
Paint the four walls black, Let the eyes roll back
Adhere to the redux of mistrust
Paint the four walls black, Let the eyes roll back
Transmute moral weakness into some twisted symbol of merit
Defecation upon the hand that provides
Negating a way forward as if in self defence
Vulgar tongue undercuts the mouth that utters
Floundering in a paradoxical pretence
Thwarted by the blaze of your own self hatred
Seduced by the degradation trails
Seduced by the degradation trails
Resent life beyond the grave
Embittered to the core

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it.
That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten
Sorrowful indeed. Utterly beautiful blackened doom metal with melody that draws out a cathartic release. Its works like these that have me believe what Schopenhauer said about music was true, that it speaks truth to what is at our most core. Camelus Dromedarius
Joseph Hawker subverts the musical and sociopolitical status quo with a black metal triptych that's as incendiary as it is impressionistic. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 5, 2022
