Open yourself to me Consumed by my misery Your blackened wings unfurled And the ashes fell like snow The ghosts that reside in this place A reminder of the life that we shared In you, I saw reflections of a cold, winter day Where the sun refused to shine These years have stolen everything from me But, time can not claim your memory Time can't take your memory from me In dying light I'll carry this weight In dying light I'll see your ghost again The future holds nothing for me Trapped in the darkness, alone Tired eyes, cursed to wake to another day Slipping further down into despair
6.
Without your voice I am sightless and alone Haunted by the memories of a place I once called home Shadows force their way inside and paint depictions of my grief I lament for providence but my faith abandons me Growing cold with every hour of this endless night The broken wings that expand behind me are incapable of flight Mired deep within my sullen ruin Amidst the dust and bereft of your light Divine hands that crafted your wings Bind me, hopeless, to my despair The sands of time, for me, shall fall no longer This growing darkness I can not escape Desperate prayers have gone unanswered I know your Heaven was never in reach At last, the rain did cease And a thunderous silence beset me Grey skies give way To an aching clarity You're no longer here But, I can't forget your face I need to feel something real The caress of cold steel Metallic taste on my tongue My hands are shaking But, my senses are numb I need to feel your pain I need to know your Heaven is real Under my own heartbeat And heavy breath There is no sound But, that of time fading away In these final moments We are truly alone Until the silence takes us away Away from this life
7.
You lie, silent there before me Your tears, they mean nothing to me The wind howling at the window The love you never gave I give to you Really don't deserve it But now, there's nothing you can do So sleep, in your only memory Of me, my dearest mother Here's a lullaby to close your eyes It was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry Here's a lullaby to close your eyes Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye So insignificant, sleeping dormant deep inside of me Are you hiding away, lost, under the sewers Maybe flying high, in the clouds Perhaps you're happy without me So many seeds have been sown in the field And who could sprout up so blessedly If I had died I would have never felt sad at all You will not hear me say 'I'm sorry' Where is the light, wonder if it's weeping somewhere? Here's a lullaby to close your eyes It was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry Here's a lullaby to close your eyes Here's a lullaby to close your eyes It was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry Here's a lullaby to close your eyes Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye Here's a lullaby to close your eyes It was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry Here's a lullaby to close your eyes Here's a lullaby to close your eyes It was always you that I despised I don't feel enough for you to cry Here's a lullaby to close your eyes Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye

about

The long-awaited split release between two eclectic southern-Saskatchewan metal acts - Nachtterror and Altars of Grief - is now available! Beginning with a Blackened Doom foundation, both Nachtterror and Altars of Grief branch from there and incorporate various other influences into their sound, including death-doom, symphonic black metal, and soundtracks music to create fresh and genuine music rooted in atmosphere and emotion! The album was recorded by Justin Bender (Third Ion / ex-Into Eternity)earlier this year at Blue Door Studio in Regina, SK. If the music itself wasn’t a reason enough to pick up this release, artist Sam Nelson has also drawn two amazing and distinct cover images for this release, presented in all its glory and detail on both sides of the record.

“Of Ash and Dying Light” is being release on a 10” record, and is strictly limited to 300 copies, only 100 of which will be available from the Hypnotic Dirge Webshop!! While supplies last, the record also comes with two 11cm x 7cm Nachtterror and Altars of Grief logo stickers!

Nachtterror
Nachtterror is a Canadian Blackened Doom project established in 2004. Focused on creating an epic soundscape with an intense concentration on storytelling, Nachtterror aims to create acaptivating and emotionally engaging doom metal experience.

Nachtterror's music reflects emotional states more so than concepts and ideas. From the violent, agony of anger and suffering to the numb discontent of depression, all states of being are experimented and explored.

As well as the upcoming "Of Ash and Dying Light" split with Altars of Grief, Nachtterror is also currently in works to release a full length album entitled "Judgement".

Altars of Grief
Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Altars of Grief was conceived in the frigid, winter months of 2013. The band draws from an eclectic musical background, weaving soaring choral arrangements with powerful, driving death metal; morose, gothic doom and frantic, uptempo black metal passages. In 2014, the band released its debut album, This Shameful Burden and followed up with a tour of central Canada in its support.

Altars of Grief's material on "Of Ash and Dying Light" is an incredible step for the band, delivering some of the best melancholic blackened doom in Canada and following in the footsteps of greats such as Woods of Ypres! Reflective, sombre, and personal lyrics and music drenched in atmosphere, this is definitely a band to watch that has arisen from the Central Prairie Plains!

Feedback:

"This is blackened doom at its very finest. Both bands offer their own individual take on blackened doom with Nachtterror arguably veering more strongly to the blackened side of things whilst Altars of Grief offer up a more symphonic, elegant take on doom with blackened elements. Both bands, however, are masters at their craft and neither one exceeds the other in terms of ability or depth of composition."
-Sonic Abuse

"I hate to be obnoxious, but I’ll risk it: Unlike most of you, I’ve heard this entire split, and man, it’s tremendously good. Whatever is in the air in the prairies of Saskatchewan, it’s producing some striking music. Spread the word about these two bands — they certainly deserve to have these songs heard far and wide."
-No Clean Singing

"Basically it could be that we are listening to the ghost of David Gold here and they really send one hell of a shiver down the spine. I think it is fair to say that fans of the late great Woods Of Ypres are absolutely going to love this and its damn impossible not to, this is evocative and heady stuff and those vocals absolutely nail it. Put them together with the sort of musical prowess that bands such as Daylight Dies and Novembers doom excel at and it’s obvious we have a really great band in the making here."
-Ave Noctum
