Jordan Vauvert Faces of Insanity, troisième album du groupe russe Epitimia, est parsemé de concepts psychiatriques mais le plus important est, je pense, celui du test de Rorschach : ce qui compte, ce n'est pas la perception mais l'interprétation. Pour pousser à cet effort, Epitimia navigue volontairement entre deux eaux : la production, les guitares et le chant ont le tranchant du DSBM (Epitimia se rapproche de Psychonaut 4 sur la cinquième piste) mais les mélodies sont très riches, voire groovy. C'est fort ! Favorite track: Epikrisis V : Rorschach Inkblot.

Jim Panse The voice is sometimes not my cup of tea (eg at the end of DS - Shizophrenia). Besides that, especially regarding the guitars, its a nice black metal album with some post-rock influences Favorite track: Epikrisis III - Megalomania.

A three-piece atmospheric Black Metal, post-rock band from Saint-Petersburg, Russia, Epitimia's 'Faces of Insanity' album is the band's third full-length album and the first on Hypnotic Dirge Records. Combining an intriguing blend of atmospheric post-rock,and depressive black metal, this is a truly well-written, unique and innovative album which definitely sees a strong progression from past Epitimia albums. Throughout the album, the songwriting shows a band with a strong capability for providing heavy doom, experimental ambience, raw black metal catchiness, and a deep melancholy which plods along with purpose throughout the album's duration.Overall, this is definitely a powerful and memorable album which should be enjoyed by all those who enjoy experimental, post-rock laden black metal, especially the stuff coming out of the european european and russian scenes lately. The album comes with an 8 page booklet with Russian lyrics.

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten

After listening to Ysyry Mollvün, listening to Downfall of Nur was urgent and turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in quite some time: Umbras de Barbagia is simply magisterial; the atmosphere can hardly be compared to anything else. There is a deep, palpable connection to nature imbueing each very fibre of this record. The amalgamation of black metal and folk elements is done with a high intuition for detail and class, resulting in a highly immersive experience. Wonderful. David Fischer
